What is Fumigation?

Fumigation is the process wherein insects are eliminated from a structure with the use of lethal gas. Sulfuryl Fluoride gas is used because between the exterior and interior of your home lies a no-mans land inaccessible to even the professional termite inspector.

These spaces, however, are not inaccessible to termites, beetles and other wood destroying insects. Spot treatments often miss them, giving you a false sense of security and wasting your money. A complete treatment with a fumigant  gas reaches into every corner of the structure including inaccessible areas, and kills every termite, even those that were never located.

Spot Treatments vs. Whole House Fumigation

  • Spot treatments can only treat small localized areas of your infestations due to the construction of a typical home; there are too many inaccessible areas that cannot be reached with a local chemical treatment.
  • Majority of termite infestations go unseen for many years and thus would not be detected or included in a spot treatment, leaving enough termites behind to continue their destruction. It only takes a few pairs of reproductive termites left untreated to begin the process all over again.
  • Most companies charge the same or more for an inferior spot treatment than what you would pay for a whole structure fumigation.
  • No toxic residue is left behind with fumigation.
  • Fumigation rids your home of un-wanted pests in addition to termites. Although we do not guarantee the elimination of other insects in our warranty we can provide you with a separate bid for pest control.

The Gas Company requires 48 hour notice prior to scheduling the fumigation in order to shut the gas off at the main.

The process prior to introducing the fumigant requires a licensed team of professionals to completely seal the structure. This serves to contain the fumigant in the building so it can penetrate wood members thoroughly. Depending on the construction type of the building the doors and windows may be sealed with tape and or plastic sheeting, or more commonly will be covered with tarps. The building will remain sealed for approximately 24 hours depending on the infestation. Warning signs are posted around the building notifying people that the property is being fumigated and to keep out. At no time is your home left unsecured. The fumigation company will use two forms of locks to secure all main points of entry. After 24 hours of covering the structure the crew will return to remove the equipment and commence aeration. It is not safe to re-enter on this second day so everything remains locked and secured and the warning signs are still in place. On the third day a licensed fumigator will return one last time to check the gas levels in your home (which must be read with an Inner-Scan at 0 parts per million) and then it is safe for us to post your home for re-entry. The gas company will most likely show up on this third day to re-light your pilots depending on the arrangements you made with the fumigators.

Once you re-enter your home feel confident that the utmost care has been taken to insure that your home is safe for re-occupancy and is now termite free!
